Global Oral Health Fundraising Breakfast 2019

Dentist examining child. Campaign Breakfast, August 29, 2019 7:30-9:00 a.m.

We are very excited to announce our Global Oral Health Awareness campaign this summer! On August 29, the Timothy A. DeRouen Center for Global Oral Health will be hosting their inaugural fundraising breakfast at the UW Botanic Gardens. The morning event features two speakers: Representative Marcus Riccelli and Dr. Jean Kagubare. Representative Riccelli is a member of the Washington House of Representatives and Vice Chair of the Health Care and Wellness Committee. Representative Riccelli is actively engaged in his community and uses public service as a way of giving back and fighting for social justice and the common good. He will be speaking about ongoing initiatives in Washington related to oral health.

Dr. Jean Kagubare, our second speaker, is the Global Deputy Director of Development at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He oversees the Global Primary Health Care team, providing technical and managerial leadership for the Gates Foundation’s health financing and health systems strengthening work with a focus on improving primary health care systems around the world. Dr. Kagubare will be speaking about the economic impact of health policy at a country level.

This event will raise funds for the DeRouen Center’s ongoing projects in Seattle, Peru, Kenya, and Thailand. Donations will support the DeRouen Center’s key mission: “To improve quality of life by promoting collaboration and inclusivity in oral and craniofacial research that impacts global health.” Money raised will be used to support the Center’s growth and success by funding fieldwork opportunities for interns, grantsmanship and administrative training for UW students, research proposals and applications, and other needs encountered by a small-but-growing research center.

We welcome you to join us at the Global Oral Health Awareness fundraising breakfast to learn more about our work at these sites, and to be a part of the DeRouen Center’s mission to improve oral health around the world.
