On September 10, 2025, on the occasion of the FDI World Dental Congress in Shanghai, Professor Ana Lucia, Director of Timothy A. DeRouen Center for Global Oral Health in University of Washington, together with Professor Pamela Yelick, President of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) from Tufts University, USA, and Dr. Christopher Fox, CEO of IADR, visited Shanghai Stomatological Hospital (School of Stomatology, Fudan University) for meaningful discussions on future collaboration.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by the hospital leadership, including Dean Jiang Xinquan. In his welcome speech, Dean Jiang outlined the hospital’s current developments and future vision. He and Professor Ana Lucia also shared insights on advancing collaboration between the University of Washington School of Dentistry and Shanghai Stomatological Hospital in clinical care, education, public health, and scientific research. During the subsequent tour, the delegation was deeply impressed by the hospital’s profound history, modern facilities, and highly efficient operational management.

Conference members gathered together around posters in hall.
The international delegation visited the Fudan University Stomatological Hospital.

As Shanghai’s first and largest public dental hospital, it serves a vital role in the region’s oral health landscape, managing over 900,000 annual patient visits. The hospital’s commitment to integrating clinical care with public health and building China’s most comprehensive oral health network is both ambitious and commendable. Notably, the hospital also has made remarkable advances in the development, regeneration, and functional restoration of craniofacial tissues. It has taken a leading role in advancing the development of a domestic artificial bone graft materials and establishing the clinical solutions for their application in craniofacial reconstruction. It appears very promising that Shanghai Stomatological Hospital will continue to expand its global engagement and foster innovation in stomatology. The prospect of deepening our collaboration and jointly contributing to the future of global oral health is highly anticipated.
